Rosselle Pekelis Former King County Superior Court, Court of Appeals & Supreme Court Judge |
Judge Pekelis has served at each level of the Washington State court system. She was appointed to the King County Superior Court in January 1981, serving there until April, 1986 when she was appointed to the State Court of Appeals, Division I. She served almost ten years on the state appellate courts, the last year on the State Supreme Court. Before joining the bench, Judge Pekelis was in private practice specializing in labor and employment, personal injury and family law.
Experience & Specialties
Judge Pekelis began mediating cases when she joined the Superior Court, conducting hundreds of settlement conferences, first as a member of the Family Law Department, and thereafter in virtually every kind of civil case. As a trial judge, Judge Pekelis presided over trials in a wide variety of legal matters. In addition, she was one of the three judges selected to begin the Complex Litigation Department. As an appellate judge, Judge Pekelis authored over 250 Washington opinions herself and participated in more than 750 others. These opinions deal with criminal cases and a wide variety of civil cases.
Judge Pekelis began mediating full-time in March, 1996. She has since mediated and arbitrated a wide variety of matters in litigation, including business, employment, family law, probate, personal injury, product liability, professional negligence and environmental law. In addition to her mediation and arbitration practice, she provides appellate consultation services for attorneys.
