Terrence A. Carroll
Retired Superior Court Judge |
Judge Carroll was appointed to the King County Superior Court in 1980 and served until 1992. From 1974 to 1980, he was in private practice with prior experience as a deputy prosecutor and public defender.
Since becoming a full-time mediator and arbitrator in February 1992, Judge Carroll has heard more than 4,000 mediations and over 1000 arbitrations. He most frequently hears cases in the areas of probate, property, personal injury, marriage dissolution, business litigation, professional liability, wrongful termination and construction law. Also, he has served as a special master in several dozen complex cases.
During his tenure on the bench, Judge Carroll conducted several hundred settlement conferences. In addition, he presided over hundreds of trials including complex civil litigation. He also served as Chief Criminal Judge and Presiding Judge at Juvenile Court.
Judge Carroll founded and chaired the Special Committee on Asbestos Litigation in King County Superior Court from 1989 to 1991. This committee developed a nationally respected process for handling asbestos cases. He also helped initiate the King County Superior Court’s Individual Calendar Program and served as Chair of the Individual Calendar Committee from 1988 to 1990.
From 1992 to 2003, Judge Carroll served as the Internal Investigations Auditor for the Seattle Police Department. He has served on the Safeco Field Public Facilities District Board since 1997. He has also lectured frequently on ADR matters.
